White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner said today that Russia’s interference in the 2016 US presidential election was serious, but that the ensuing Mueller Commission investigation has done much more to damage American democracy.
What?!
First off, Kushner is flat out wrong. Russia’s interference directly allowed Donald Trump to be elected President, making him the first white supremacist to occupy the White House in over 100 years.
Meanwhile, the Mueller Report has in fact been a crucial exercise in civic democracy, and has unearthed enough evidence to make a strong case for impeachment of the president. So Kushner is just flat-out wrong on both counts.
But what really galls me, and cuts me to my core, is that Kushner is a Jewish guy from New Jersey. Which is not unlike some of my cousins and my extended family, albeit Kushner is a million times wealthier.
Jared Kushner is not only allying himself with but actually working for and marrying into the family of a white nationalist, which speaks terribly about his character, his self-confidence, and his love for the Jewish people.
Because make no mistake. Trump may not openly be making anti-Semitic statements, but for damn sure his supporters are. Plus, during the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump tweeted an anti-Hillary Clinton meme with a Star of David represented as money on her lapel, implying Clinton was controlled by the Jews.
Since assuming office, Trump has frequently made dog whistle noises about “globalists,” which many interpret to be a none-too-veiled allusion to the ancient trope about Jews and banks.
Perhaps what stings most about Jared Kushner’s support for the President is that he is directly contravening modern American Judaism’s focus on helping the poor, supporting charity and advocating for diversity and progressivism.
Jews were integral to the 1960’s civil rights movement, and have also been heavily involved in furthering economic and social rights in recent decades.
So for all those reasons I say Jared Kushner, we are casting you out. You have failed in your Jewish obligation to make America a better place, and you are a traitor to your race.
