Copper’s Corner: Copper Eats When She Wants To Eat

It’s 4 p.m., and I’m chilling in my bedroom. I only woke up recently, because I was up all night writing for genxchronicle.com.

I did the third story of the second edition of Copper’s corner, and I did a story asking Jennifer Garner to marry me, which was kind of a joke but it was fun to write.

So I’ve been chilling in bed for a little while now.  I got some water and some Dr. Brown’s diet cherry soda from the fridge.  I checked email. I checked genxchronicle’s Facebook page. I checked my texts.  There was one from my mother.

Now it’s time to feed Copper.

The big bag of Rabbit and Pea Select Protein is just about empty, so I pour the last remaining bit into her bowl.  It’s like a double serving, but I figure, why not, let’s just finish it out, right? I have a new bag ready to go anyway.

I place three Dried Chicken Treats on top of the dry food, because she loves these things, she absolutely goes crazy for them.

I don’t know exactly where she is, because she’s not in the cat bed, and she isn’t in the living room either. So I say hey Copper. I call out hey Copper, lunch is ready, Copper, lunch is ready Copper, your lunch is ready Copper.

All of a sudden Copper appears out of nowhere in the bedroom.  She sits on her haunches and looks at me.

Then she walks towards me as I’m laying on the bed, and she stands in front of where I am on the bed. I start petting her, and then I pet her and pet her and pet her some more.  It feels great, but she only stays for a minute or so, and then she leaves. I think she had food on her mind.

She’s so funny sometimes. I mean she’s very loving, but she’s also shy at the same time. She’s also very adventurous, and at the same time she’s cautious too.  She’s a picky eater. But then she’ll tear up the apartment for the Dried Chicken Treats. So she’s an interesting but very cool and awesome cat.

I say go ahead and eat Copper, go ahead and eat Copper, I can pet you later Copper, I can pet you later Copper. She slowly walks into the kitchen, and she gets to the entryway, but then she comes back into the bedroom again.

She does this sometimes. She hesitates when there’s food ready for her. It’s like she’s hungry and she wants to eat it, but she’s not quite ready to go at it and actually do it yet. She’s waiting for my approval or something.

I say go eat Copper, go eat Copper, its 4 p.m. I know you’re hungry Copper, go eat Copper.

Finally she makes her way back into the kitchen again, and I lean around the corner of my bedroom into the kitchen to see what she’s up to.

She has her head in her food bowl, but then she lifts her head and looks back at me.  So I look away so she doesn’t see me. I just decided to ignore her and let her make her own decisions.

About 30 seconds later she walks into the bedroom, with a piece of the Dried Chicken Treat in her paws, her mouth, and back and forth.

She loves these things, she absolutely loves them. They’re way better than the Rabbit  and Pea Select Protein. They’re her treat, her pleasure, her joy, her heaven.

So then she walks around the corner of the bed, and I can’t see her for a second, so I move around on the bed so that I’m closer to her. I look at her, and she looks at me, and just as I look at her she licks her lips. Her eyes are wide open.

She does this sometimes, it’s so funny! It’s like she was just eating, and she knows that I know that she was eating, and she has kind of a guilty look on her face. That’s what it is, it’s a guilty look, and a look of surprise too.

It’s like she’s saying yes, I was eating, I was eating, that’s right I was eating, so what? Am I supposed to care that you caught me? So you caught me. I was eating, oh my God, that’s so terrible. I was eating. But

So it’s not a scared look at all, it’s a look of casual surprise, with eyes wide open, licking her lips, enjoying herself.  She’s saying yep, I was eating, yep I was eating, and I enjoyed it very much. That’s why I was licking my lips, dude.

So that’s pretty cool stuff.  I’m glad she’s able to enjoy the Dried Chicken Treat so much, and that she’s able to finally go and eat when she wants to eat.  She still hesitates a little bit before diving in, but then she goes for it. We’ll see what happens next.

It’s 5:30 p.m., and I just had a chilling out session with Copper in the bedroom. I was lying on the bed with my arms hanging over the side of the bed, and I was petting her around both corners of the bed, using my right arm when she was on one side and my left arm when she was on the other side.

I also pet her cheek a little with my thumb, because my mother told me that cats love to be pet on their cheeks.  Copper seems to love it too, as long as I do it slowly and delicately.

So I pet her for a good 10 minutes around both corners of the bed. It really really really relaxes me and chills me out.

Then Copper walks away a few feet, and starts grooming herself, which is just fascinating to watch. She’s licking her belly, licking, licking, licking her belly. They’re hard licks, like she’s really cleaning herself.  I guess it’s her way of taking a shower. Since she doesn’t take a regular shower, she uses her tongue to clean herself like a shower.

Then she licks her paws, her right front paw, then her right hind paw, then both front paws.  She licks and licks and licks.

It’s just absolutely fascinating to watch.  All my thoughts stop, and I’m just interested in Copper. It’s like I’m watching Animal Planet on TV or something. Everything I was worrying about with genxchronicle.com, about my work, about life, about everything, just melts away as I watch Copper grooming herself.

She licks her shoulder, she licks her belly, she licks all four paws, and she just keeps licking and grooming herself. Then she scratches her ear really fast with her paw a few times.

It looks a little bit like a hummingbird, because she does it so fast.  It’s pretty cool to watch, it really is. She looks at me a few times while she’s doing all this, but I just give her the slow blink to let her know I love her and she can continue doing what she’s doing.  Don’t worry about me Copper. Just don’t worry about me. Just do your own thing. Whatever you want to do Copper, just do it.

Finally she finishes grooming after about five or six minutes. She’s done cleaning herself for now. My brain is absolutely quiet, all my thoughts are still. It’s like when I pet her, but it’s even more intense. Because it’s like watching an animal in its habitat. Just incredible.

Then she walks over to the cat bed, and she looks like she wants to get in it.  But she’s not sure if she should, or if she should get more petting from me, or if she should do something else. I say go for it Copper, it’s okay Copper, if you want to get in the bed, get in the bed, don’t worry about me, we’ve seen each other a lot today.

She hears that and walks towards me, and I pet her a little more, because why not? Eventually she walks away, and she goes off somewhere else in the apartment, I don’t know where. But that was absolutely incredible. It was like watching Animal Kingdom or Animal Planet or something like that.  It just chilled me right the heck out. Awesome, cool stuff. We’ll see what happens next.
