Blueberries and Marvin Gaye

It’s 3:57 am, and I’m eating blueberries while listening to Marvin Gaye on Spotify. The current song is “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” and it’s one of his all-time classics, released in 1967. On the song he pairs with Tammi Terrell to deliver a virtuoso performance. Marvin is all soulful poetry, and she’s all passionate love and tenderness.

It’s a great song, and it’s really chilling me out after a long stressful day. I woke up late after another long night of writing, blogging, and tweeting in my eternal quest to build the Gen X Chronicle brand. I spent the afternoon taking care of some work emails, and I spent part of the evening editing and amending some blog posts from the day before.

The rest of the evening I alternately watched the Winter Olympics and listened to music. That’s my routine most evenings, to alternate between work, TV, and music. The Winter Olympics have been pretty compelling this year, so I’ve been able to just relax and let myself get immersed in them.

Tonight one of the big events was cross-country skiing, which sounds boring as hell, and I always thought it was too, but on this night it was completely compelling. Jessica Diggins from tiny Afton, Minnesota won the gold, and it was an exciting race right down to the finish. So that was cool.

Later I watched some two-man women’s bobsled, which sounds kind of strange. Shouldn’t it be called two-woman? Anyway, I wasn’t really that into it, and a German team won the gold, with the US taking silver. But the NBC coverage really highlighted two unique teams, the Jamaican team and the team from Nigeria. Obviously it’s because they don’t really have snow in those countries, and we all know about the movie “Cool Runnings.” Neither team finished near contention, but it was still cool to watch.

Now I’m just kicking back in my kitchen, looking out the big window at the night sky, and listening to Mr. Gaye. “Let’s Get It On,” just came on, and man is this a dope song. Marvin is just putting his sexuality out there front and center and letting women know he’s down to get down. I like it a lot.

Oh, and those blueberries? They’re from United Brothers Fruit Market, a local produce market in my neighborhood in Astoria, Queens. United Brothers has been around since the late 70’s, and they’re open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The fruit and vegetables are fantastic, and everything is like half Manhattan prices. It’s a little gem in our humble corner of northwest Queens.

So now it’s 4:19 am, and I’m thinking of making an egg and cheese sandwich, or maybe heating up a slice of pizza. One thing’s for sure. I’m going to keep listening to Marvin Gaye, and I’m going to finish the bowl of blueberries I’m eating. Because it really is a perfect combination tonight, blueberries and Marvin Gaye.

It sure does have a nice ring to it. I wonder if I can trademark it?
